Ruell Chappell grew up in the Springfield Missouri Music scene making his first recording at 7 years of age and working as a studio musician for Wayne Carson, and many other prolific writers in Springfield, Tulsa and Nashville. Ruell joined the Ozark Mountain Daredevils in 1976 and performs with the band today. Ruell found his writing voice in the early 2000s working on an album created around the story of The Young Brother’s Massacre of 1932, the largest law enforcement massacre previous to 9/11. In addition to performing with OMD, Ruell hosts Ozark Writers’ Night, a local songwriter’s group, and is Director of Play It Forward SWMO, his Not For Profit dedicated to putting instruments in the hands of children that cannot afford them.
