About Us

A Look Back at 10 Years!

As we lead up to the 10th Annual Pensacola Beach Songwriters Festival (PBSF), we take a look back at what we have accomplished in the past to help make our community, and even the world, a better place. We are happy to announce that we received our 501(c)3 non-profit status this past year and look forward to bringing even more events to our community.

Music as Message At SongFest 2012 our Board member, Ross Orenstein, met one of our out-of-town songwriters, Donna Britton Bukevicz, at a workshop. As a result of that meeting they teamed up to start a non-profit called  Team Green World and co-wrote songs to teach children how to care for the environment. Ross and Donna then extended their partnership and formed Music as Message as the for profit entity that produced “The Eco Team” pilot episode that aired on WSRE Public Television, and other PBS stations in Florida. This is just one example of the networking opportunities PBSF provides for the songwriters!

Toys4Tots While Toys for Tots was well-established, PBSF started the first songwriters showcase for Toys for Tots in Pensacola. In 2014 we raised $400 in cash and collected over $1500 in toys at one of our showcases during the festival. This is now an annual event and sponsors the "Toys for Tots: Midway to Nashville" show!

Denham Springs In early August 2016, unprecedented rainfall caused the Amite River and its tributaries to flood at record levels. Livingston Parish and the town of Denham Springs, Louisiana were completely engulfed in the flooding, with 90% of the town’s residents experiencing water in their homes. Of these flooded homes, between 70-80% experienced “total loss” of property, including their homes, vehicles, furniture, clothes, and most other possessions. The schools in the Denham Springs school zones were the hardest-hit in the parish. Denham Springs High School experienced between 3-8 feet of water on campus, with every building and classroom submerged. We created a benefit show “From the Bayou to the Beach” (Giving Back to the Bayou) on September 30th in Pensacola Beach with songwriters from Louisiana. We raised $2,000 during that event and were so honored to help bring the music back to Denham Springs High School!

AHERO Working with Veteran songwriters to help them transition back into socierty was a special project that is now an annual undertaking. Teaming up with AHERO, we hosted "A Musical Salute to our Veterans" at SongFest 2017 and followed it up with a special "Operation Song" event this past April.

Another important mission for PBSF is to bring music to the kids. We do this every year by taking songwriters into the classrooms at Pensacola Beach Elementary School and Gulf Breeze Middle School. Hit songwriters write a song on the spot with input from the children and craft music to some of their prepared lyrics.

We look forward to continuing to work with the community and hosting the 20th Annual Pensacola Beach Songwriters Festival 10 years from now!!!
